Job Description
To comply with regulation and ensure the efficient running of the clinic in order to ensure a safe and healthy environment and this ensures a healthy workforce.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan audiometry tests to be carried out annually and bi-annually
- Plan all blood tests in accordance with lead regulations
- Plan restocking of first aid and disaster boxes in relation to orders being placed
- Do lead, haemoglobin, Haematocrit, Urea and Creatinine blood tests and any other tests deemed necessary by the company Doctor on all employees on a regular basis
- Cary out pre-employment, annual, transfer and exit medicals when necessary
- Screen employees for the Doctors’ visits and assist the Doctor when he/she is on site
- Treat all IOD cases and where necessary refer the employees to a Doctor or hospital for treatment
- Run daily primary health care clinic and administer appropriate treatment
- Act as medical representative on the Safety Committee and in this capacity control and maintain safety throughout the plant and attend safety meetings and assist with disaster planning from a medical viewpoint
- Assist with and advise on employees’ welfare – including off site visits i.e., co-ordinate employee assistance programme
- Control all ordering and receipting of drugs and dressings and equipment as per dispensing licence
- Handle own correspondence with regard to referral of employees to Doctors and organisations
- Maintain good relationship with all employees
- Induction of new employees regarding the hazards of lead, general hygiene and company policy and procedure and health and safety
- Monthly medical reports
- Control doctors’ certificates and sick leave for all hourly paid employees and forward them to the wage office and report on absenteeism and counsel employees with excessive sick leave in conjunction with their supervisors
- Supervise prescribes medicine taken by employees e.g., diabetes, hypertension
- Keep abreast of new developments regarding Occupational Health and Safety
- Attend monthly Occupational Health Meeting
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and to interpret an extensive variety of symptoms and deal with contributing and complicating factors
- Validates sick notes: diagnoses employee’s illnesses and administers medication up to, but not including schedules drugs; re-orders stock supplies in line with the Clinic budget; makes recommendations to decision makers
- Ability to read, analyse and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
- Assist with risk assessment for hazardous substances and implement and biological monitoring deemed necessary
- Record keeping. Compile and keep health, medicine, sick and injury on duty records for all employees
Education & Experience
- Matric and a Nursing diploma with 2 years related experience
- Occupational Health Diploma, Dispensing Licence, Audiometry Certificate, First Aid Level 4
