Job Description

  • Develop a rigid framework according to which imported goods are to be cleared - tariff headings, commodity codes, rebate codes, etc.
  • Obtain the best duty rates by product class and process any duty drawbacks applicable
  • Maintain accurate records of all bonded materials on a rebate register as well as adequate records retention in line with customs requirements
  • Stay abreast of industry developments and customs compliance requirements
  • Maintain a close liaison with customs officials and handle all audits requested by customs and avoid any findings relating to compliance topics
  • Understand the rules of preferential origin and submit customer requirements in this aspect
  • Understand and manage all APDP(Automotive Production Development Program) objectives and submissions to the customer on quarterly basis
  • Understand shipping INCO terms and respective clearing requirements both at origin and into South Africa
  • Understand freight rates and be able to produce an accurate freight forecast for all imported materials
  • Analyze freight invoices in line with agreed rates prior to submitting for approval to Logistics Manager
  • Offer support to the planning department with vessel sailing and airfreight schedules

Qualification and Experience

  • A Matric Certificate
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years experience in dealing with customs officials, shipping & clearing of imports & exports. Experience in the Automotive industry would be an added advantage.
